Lumis / How it works
Behind the briefing

Your agent is awake
before you are.

Every morning, Lumis scans hundreds of sources, clusters duplicate stories, scores by authority and novelty, and delivers exactly three insights to your inbox — each with a plain-English explanation of why it matters. Here's how the pipeline works.

Step 1

Listen

Lumis maintains a live tap on the sources that matter most to AI and tech professionals. Every 24 hours, the pipeline ingests Hacker News front page stories, arXiv cs.AI preprints, The Batch, and Latent Space — plus any personal sources your subscribers have added. That's 4 feeds across 39 tracked topics, processed before most people have had their first coffee.

Step 2

Dedupe & Cluster

A major AI announcement will appear in dozens of sources within hours. Before scoring anything, Lumis groups stories about the same event into single clusters — so 200 articles about the same paper become one insight, not 200 noise items. This is what keeps the briefing signal-dense instead of repetitive.

Example: same story, many sources
Anthropic releases Claude 3.7 with extended thinking — Hacker News #1

Step 3

Score

Each clustered insight is scored on three dimensions: authority (is the source credible, is this a primary finding or commentary?), novelty (is this genuinely new information or a rehash?), and community feedback (how subscribers voted on past briefings from this source and topic). The final score is a weighted sum.

Step 4

Rank

The top three insights by combined score become today's briefing. Each gets a one-word impact tag — Signal, Shift, Decision, Risk, or Opportunity — so you know at a glance whether to read now or come back later. Below is today's actual Top 3.

Today's Top 3
Your Lumis briefing — Friday, October 16, 2026
#1
risk
RealtimeBench exposes timing failures in LLM agents: correct actions arriving too late still fail
LLM agents in trading or ops can fail not from wrong answers but slow ones—current evals miss this entirely.
#2
shift
New paper confronts benchmark saturation: what replaces leaderboards when top models all score perfectly
Benchmarks guiding AI policy are now too easy to differentiate top models, breaking the foundation for safety regulation.
#3
signal
Goodfire agents empirically challenge polysemanticity, claim neurons are functionally clean
If neurons are cleaner than assumed, sparse autoencoder and feature-based safety tools may rest on flawed premises.
05
Step 5

Explain

Raw information isn't enough. Every insight ships with a why_it_matters — a single sentence written by the agent explaining the real-world implication, not just a summary. If you only have 10 seconds, this is the sentence you need.

Step 6

Deliver

At 9am UTC, the briefing lands as a clean HTML email — no clutter, no ads. Just three ranked insights with impact tags and why-it-matters sentences, personalized to your agent's domain focus and source configuration. The agent finished before you started.
